Career history and accomplishments

Senior Researcher; Social Value UK; April 2016 – present

• Internal lead on a European Commission Horizon 2020 project to design a framework for the measurement and management of long-term care for older people;

• Project management role delivering key outputs and ensuring the involvement and collaboration of partners across 11 European nations;

• Large-scale secondary data collection of social impact analysis;

Social Accounting Consultant; Mantell Gwynedd; 2015 – present

• Mantell Gwynedd is the County Voluntary Council for Gwynedd in North Wales that serves third sector organisations. My role has been to work closely with the Chief Officer to introduce the concept of social value and SROI to the organisation and its members;

• Completed two large-scale SROI evaluations of Big Lottery funded projects to demonstrate the social value created and are working with the local authority and health board to influence their strategy and resource allocation with the principles of social value.

• Working with public institutions including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to influence how they measure, report and manage the impacts on patients and other important stakeholders.

Social Value Researcher/Advisor; The Furniture Resource Centre (FRC) Group; 2005 – present

• Initiated the FRC Group’s work with SROI and remained part of the team responsible for various awards on the measurement and management of social impacts;

• Continued to work on the development of social value metrics and reporting systems, leading to the embedding of social value budgets;

• Provided maternity cover as interim impacts manager – reporting to the CEO and the Board’s social value sub-committee and played a significant role in production of the first integrated financial and social accounts;

• Co-opted to the Board’s Social Value Sub-Committee.

University of Salford; Cathedral Group Project, Social Impact Analyst; 2015

• Evaluated the existing portfolio of a large private sector property development firm;

• Assisted the client to communicate the social value of their PPP developments.

Tomorrow’s People; SROI Consultant; 2015

• Completed two SROI analyses evaluating the value of employment support for ex-offenders and people with barriers to employment.

Associate Lecturer; University of York; 2014 – 2015

• Taught post-graduate student modules on social and qualitative research methods;

• Supervised dissertations for Masters level students.

• Developed and delivered numerous modules at under- and post-graduate level;

• Specialised in sustainable development, business ethics, social enterprise and social impacts;

• Strategic evaluation of the Access Enterprise Project, a scheme supported by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund to provide self-employment services to people with mental health concerns.

• Strategic evaluation of the Skills for All Project; part of a successful Big Lottery bid for continued funding of community digital inclusion activities.
